Allied Mineral Site Required Night Pours
The job involved frequent night pours, Rick Passey, Sales Manager, Kirkpatrick Central Division, said. “When we started it was very hot at night, which made things a bit challenging. We were doing pours of between 500 to 700 cubic yards. But this was a great project for us,” he said.
Goodgame Company, Pell City, was the design-build contractor for the new 169,625-square-foot manufacturing facility. Allied Minerals makes a variety of refractory materials.
Refractory materials are substances that can withstand high temperatures and chemical or heat decomposition while retaining their rigidity and strength. They are used in a variety of applications, including lining furnaces, kilns, and fireplaces, and in molds for casting metal.
Allied originally had two Alabama locations in Anniston and Pell City. After purchasing Riverside Refractories, the company decided to combine both of those locations into one – the new Pell City facility.
Goodgame was tasked with site selection, building design, equipment layout, and installation. They also relocated existing equipment from two plants to the new facility in Pell City.
